Tropical Decor For The Home

Using a tropical theme in home decor is very popular these days.  There is no need to be a coastal homeowner to utilize the light and casual decorating ideas of beach town retreats.  Because this theme is very versatile, it is easy to incorporate into nearly any room within the home.  Utilizing tropical decor can create a bright and open space to enjoy for many years.  So, what makes a tropical theme?  In order to create a great tropical room decor, one must consider several items.  These items include:  color scheme, textures, furniture, and accessories.

Starting with color, one must consider that tropical decor is very versatile and does not need to adhere to any particular color scheme.  Traditional color palettes for tropical decor include blue, green, coral, and yellow.  These colors are excellent choices for a fun room as the colors are bold and definite indicators of the tropics.  These colors tend to be seen in tropical hotels and restaurants that can be found in many vacation destinations.  However, using a subtle color palette can create an effective tropical feel, as well.  Examples of a subtle approach to tropical decor includes the use of earth tones such as bronze or tan.  These are excellent choices for wall color as they leave the space feeling open.

Texture is another important consideration when using tropical beach decor.  If using a subtle color palette, adding texture to wall paint can help to give interest to the space and respect the organic feel of tropical home decor.  As well, it is important to consider texture in other ways.  Window treatments and other uses of textiles is an excellent way to bring a tropical theme into a room.  The use of bamboo for items such as window shades and silks for the use of curtains are staple items in tropical themes.  As well, consider rattan, unbleached cotton, and grass cloth for items such as area rugs, throws, and pillows.  Lastly, texture is an item is essential when considering flooring.  Hardwood floors that have been stained in darker browns or utilizing bamboo flooring is optimal in creating a classic tropical look.  However, if carpeting is a preferred choice, consider the texture and design of the carpet and be sure to include some throw rugs that will carry the tropical decor theme.

Furniture is essential to any room and determining the right pieces for a tropical room is important.  Many furniture stores carry wicker and bamboo furniture designs that are not only functional, but fitting.  If this is not a good choice for a homeowner’s needs, consider other furniture styles that include small tropical prints, or incorporate the tropical color palette.  Utilizing wood furniture pieces in a room is an excellent choice for tropical decor.  So, consider wood tables, chairs, bureaus, and stands.

Lastly, using the right accessories for tropical decorations will complete the look.  For instance, including tropical plants in the space will give a feeling of the open and lively atmosphere of tropic regions.  As well, including decorative pillows with tropic prints and decorative throws that are made from organic materials will pull the room together.  Wall hangings that include tropical animals such as fish, birds, and other small beach creatures can be great accents.  Consider utilizing glass bowls filled with sea shells to accessorize end tables and shelves.

Depending on what the home decorator is looking to create, the ideas for tropical decor can be endless.  Utilizing bold and bright colors can naturally bring the tropics into a home.  However, a subtle approach can be just as effective if the right textures, furniture, and accessories are added.
