Back Support Pillows Aren’t Just For The Office

We put our bodies through a lot each and every day. If you work in an office you probably sit more than 90% of the time. Surprisingly, this is often true for the time you spend at home. The majority of the time, unless you’re asleep in your bed, you are sitting somewhere in your home or backyard. If you work in a very physical job more than likely when you return home from your workday you want to relax and that often involves sitting.

We often think about what our bodies are enduring when we are at work but that same consideration doesn’t always translate to what’s going on in our homes. We also shouldn’t forget the amount of time we spend in our vehicles. The amount of time we spend sitting takes of the majority of the time we are awake. When we sit our bodies naturally apply a large amount of pressure on the lower curve of our spine, especially if we have poor posture. When you have poor posture or slump you are applying as much as 100lbs of pressure on those discs in your back. This compression of the discs between our vertebrate will lead to poor posture, pain, and result in poorly functioning bodies.

There are ways to help prevent this from occurring or correct the problem if you are already experiencing pain. At work employers want their employees to be healthy and productive and will often supply the employees with chairs that support the important lumbar region of your back or will provide back support pillows to correct any chairs currently in use. These back support pillows aren’t just for the office and should be considered for use in your homes and cars as well.

Many people have a home office and don’t think about making it ergonomic. While it is a good idea to use a support pillow in your home office it is important not to forget the other places in your home where you spend time sitting. Couches come with throw pillows and decorators wisely include them in their designs, but the natural structure of a throw pillow may not be sufficient support for your back. Even if you aren’t spending all of your time on the couch watching TV, posture and support is important when reading books or the newspaper or sitting talking with family members or friends. Without adequate support you’re putting yourself at risk for injury and pain.

Reading in bed is an activity that many people enjoy, but just like the pillows on your couch the pillows usually on your bed will not provide the kind of support your back needs to remain unencumbered by pain. When your back is properly supported with a back support pillow for bed you will be able to enjoy your activities for a longer time. Your body won’t feel fatigued nor will you have to continually shift your position to find a comfortable spot.

When you bring back support pillows for chairs into the living room or back support pillows for bed into the bedroom you are creating environments where your back pain will be reduced if not eliminated. Ask your doctor or chiropractor for recommendations or ask your health and safety officer at work. Utilize the Internet to research the back support pillow that is right for you.

Your posture is important and the support you provide your body when in positions that can cause stress to specific areas of your spine is just as important. Keep you and your spine strong by making good use of a great tool. You might just find that you can’t live without your back support pillows. After all, when you can find something that will help you reduce the risk of injury or pain there’s no reason not to incorporate it in your life.
